Three Sisters Wetland Reserve


An hour at lunchtime in the drizzle

1 Oystercatcher over,usual woodland birds around
8 Coot =1 family party with 6 young chicks(the largest brood i,ve seen)
30 House Martin and 30 swallows putting on a great display and flying down the paths avoiding me and the dog walkers by inches

Managed to escape from the workhouse for a quick lunchtime stroll in the sunshine.

1 Chiffchaff singing in the wooded area of the GP compound.

A pair of Pied Wagtail have been hanging around the Antler Court area for the last week.

29 Lapwing on the roof of First Manchester depot
128 Black-headed Gull and 1 Common Gull on the site of the now demolished Georgia Pacific warehouse.
1 Pochard (drake) with 6 Tufted Duck on the boating lake
1 Grey Wagtail in flight over the industrial estate

Early visit in the rain,
girly birding againgood numbers of chaffinch,bullfinch,greenfinch,willow,coal,blue,longtailed,great tit,all at the feeding station.
A quick look over the wetland area ,1 grey heron, 6 goldfinch,and a fox

A mid morning visit to the feeding station,all the usual garden birds,some exellent view,s of willow and coal tit at 1m greater spotted woodpecker at 2m ,upto 15 blue tits on the feeder at oncebiggrin (a little bit of girly birding)very pleasant and with the comfort of a bench and a roof sheer blissbiggrin

One of the volunteers told me today that there was a single Waxwing present yesterday (31/12/2010) near the entrance to the house from the car park. It wasn't there when I checked this morning, but there's plenty berries left, so worth checking if anyone's going.

mid morning visit to dodge the rain

lake mallard,coot,moorhen,farm ducks,bh gull and 32 very well fed mute swans
feeders,delightful although there,s no food being put in coal,blue,willow,great tit,gs pecker and deep joy a very showy nuthatch
wetland area 50 goldfinch, nothing else yet

there,s a 'birds seen here' tick list on the notice board and bittern has got a tickbiggrin.gif

A Kingfisher, c50 House Martins, a few Sand Martins and 2 Swifts at the Wetland Area today, before I was asked to leave as the area isn't yet open to the public. Lots of Horse Flies too rage.gif

first outing of the year for me. been ill over xmas.

around 40 siskin near car park. had a good scan of them all but no redpoll.

On the lake:
male pintail
pair of goosander
pochard
tufted duck

and the usual stuff, nothing exciting really but started my year list off.

didnt see the barn owl.

went round wigan flashes but didnt stay long because it started chucking it down...

near entrance point by farm nr bryn marsh:
more willow tits,
few siskin and a couple of redpoll

pearsons:
goldeneye,

nr feeder:
reed bunting,
didnt see the brambling

there was a healthy flock of mistle thrush on viridor wood today by the riding stables. didnt stop to count or check for other species (was jogging) but there must have been at least 40 in the one field.
