Info per Roy Travis - 21.2.07.

a juv GN Diver first seen on no 1 Resv then flew onto no 2, the previous (or same?) juv GND was last seen on 6th Feb.
Also a Common Scoter today.

No sign of the G-n Diver on the 8th Feb, after half an hour scanning no. 2. Otherwise
40 Goldeneye, 5 Goosander, 4 Pochard, 19 Tufted, 10 Coot, Redshank heard.

No sign of juv Great Northern Diver yesterday or today (9th and 10th ).

pair of Ringed Plovers on both days.

Tonight's roost

1 ad Yellow-legged Gull
2 Leucistic Black-headed Gulls
c30 Great Black-backed Gulls
c1000 Herring Gulls arrived from the north (presumably the Pilsworth area at dusk)

Tues - 6th Feb

juv Great Northern Diver still on no 2 Resv.

ad Yellow-legged Gull in the roost, also reasonable nos of big Gulls tonight with c400 Herrings and 30 Great Black-backeds. Also the usual leucistic BHG.

Other species inclued a Redshank, 3 Pochard and c20 Goosander.

Sat - 3rd Feb

juv Great Northern Diver still on no 2 Resv.

36 Pochard

Nothing of note in the Gull roost before the fog came in with 13 GBB Gulls, 65 LBB Gulls, 25 Herring Gulls, 2,500 Common Gulls and 6,000 Black-heads.

Also 1 Wigeon, 30 Goldeneye,4 Goosander and a pair of Ringed Plovers.

GBB Gull - 28

Golden Plover - 50

argentatus Herring - 5+ big, dark-backed adults, probably more but strong light made things tricky

Wrap up warm if you're going. A chap could lose his bearings in weather like this!

Little Gull - adult flying about on west side of no.2 late afternoon but then lost and no further sign in the roost at dusk

2 GN Divers still there on No 2. Also plenty of Goldeneye and Goosander and hundreds of Gulls. Eye-watering wind though

Yellow-legged Gull - adult on resv 3
Golden Plover - 100+
Goldeneye - just a feeble 20
Also Goosander numbers very low (less than 20)

Although Audenshaw Resvs in theory are a permit access site, in reality the site is used by large numbers of the general public (Dogwalkers,joggers,etc - over 100 people a day) without ever being challenged. In short you've got more chance of winning the Lottery than you've got of being challenged for a permit on Audenshaw.


Access through the open fence on the B6390 just before the motorway bridge. No 2 Reservoir is the most southerly reservoir by the motorway.

Med Gull - adult on 3 (found by Paul Wren)
Great Northern Diver - ad & juv still on 2
Yellow-legged Gull - 2 adults on 3
