RE: Shag at Hollingworth 31.10.06

Still present on the raft at 17:00 hrs despite the best efforts of two yachtsmen to flush it. It is presumably going to roost overnight.

Thanks for the update Steve. Unfortunately not the county blocker it once was due to afew 'manageable' birds, it's still a very good county record, I know Rob Adderley managed to catch up with it this afternoon for his county year list.

The bird was seen well from the shoreline by Pavilion Wood on the south side of lake (SD937146). It is roosting on a small raft in the south-west corner of the lake straight out from the sea cadet centre. I have taken a detailed description and will be submitting a rarity form shortly. Alan Nuttall has taken some photos which either he or I will send to you. It was still present at 13:50 hrs. Luckily there is no boating activity on the lake today so it may hang around. It was found by Simon Hitchen early this morning.

Just received (atleast 3rd hand) news from county recorder Judith Smith of a first-winter Shag on a raft at the west end of Hollingworth Lake at 12:40- a great record and hopefully the start of some good birds produced by these strong winds?

Should be more details to come on this sighting later.
