RE: Highfield Moss (other wildlife)

Survey mats visit today produced just 1 toad (previous visits have all had 1-10 lizards but none today)

Plenty of spiders in webs in the long grass and shrubs, a huge one caught my eye so I got a few photos and ID'd it as a female four-spot orb-weaver.

The darter looks like teneral black darter, which I've seen before on the site. Note the glossy wings which indicate teneral.

Couldn't find a thread for non-avian wildlife at this site, so here we go! I think worth having one as the site has reptiles and amphibians, and (probably) some interesting invertebrates.

Visit this afternoon to check survey mats for Lancashire Amphibian and Reptile Group: 7 viviparous lizards and 2 common toads

Also found straw dot moth (Rivula sericealis) and common darter (Sympetrum striolatum), horrible phone quality image of the latter attached in case anyone is interested - my ID may be wrong but that's my best guess :)
