I've contacted the reserve warden (not a fully staffed reserve) about this but not seen a reply for a few days.
Local reserve has a few hides / screens. Someone at the weekend put bird food "looks like the "Robin feed" type on the inside shelves of the hides and on the open window ledges. Now whilst this might be a way to get some close up avian views, with Avian Bird Flu going around (there have been dead pigeon and swan at the reserve) this seems like an easy way to pass contamination and possible disease from birds to Humans. Certainly on 2nd Jan there were families out eating their lunches in hides during a downpour.
I suggested to the warden the food should be removed and disinfectant applied and instead feeders be put up outside the hides (as they are at some locations anyway). If the wardens too busy I've offerred to go the 'morrow afternoon or Saturday with dust pan and brush, pharma grade gloves and face masks and pharma grade Industrial Isopropyl Alcohol and I'll do a clean up.
