House Martins back again this morning. Yesterday's visit was the earliest ever. They tend to show up, touch base with the old stamping ground, and then disappear for days, or a week, before showing up again and starting to (re-) build their nests.
Daily highlights at the feeders are two pairs of Bullfinches & a pair of Long-tailed Tits, the latter being addicted to suet balls. We've had upto 12 of them crammed into the feeder cage over the winter but I suspect the remaining pair are now nesting somewhere close.
The most numerous birds currently are Goldfinches & House Sparrows. Two pairs (maybe three) of the latter are nesting on our house. Always a joy. Still plenty of Starlings around, usually managing to squeeze their bodies into the suet feeder cage. Consequently I'm going through them like the clappers
Been looking out for them for days and finally yesterday evening 2 House Martins turned up over the garden. Thought I'd possibly seen one earlier in the day flying from above the bedroom window where they nest each year, but it disappeared too quickly.
