Not sure if this is a regular occurrence but yesterday I had the unfortunate experience to witness a juvenile Cormorant kill a juvenile Tufted Duck and attempt to eat it whole, a la Grey Heron. After 30 minutes no success, so it decided to have a wing-drying session, with the Duck floating sadly nearby. Had to leave at this juncture, so no idea if the Cormorant had a second go. I hope it did in a funny way, as otherwise it would have been a complete waste of a life.

Just being pedantic but the last but one post should be 3rd Calendar year Herring Gull chased off a 2nd Calendar year bird. I'm giving up on cycles, so don't tell Chris Boardman.

Due to the nature of the lease with the landowners and limitation of numbers allowed on site, the pool area has always been members only although at this time of year reasonable views are possible from the perimeter fence.

Had a bit of a rain soaked explore of Carrington. The highlight being about 40 chaffinch and at least 100 jackdaw in the fields.

But I was wondering...how do I access the shell pond? I followed the path to the left but I couldn't find an entrance. Is it private property?

Thanks!

Presumably the same 3 Whooper Swan recently seen on the adjacent Carrington moss dropped onto the pool at about 2.30 but only stayed for a few minutes before being driven off by the resident Mute Swan.
