This is a really interesting location on the banks of the river Lune and will be worth another visit on a better day weatherwise.

.... further to my report from yesterday should have mentioned a happy incident that took place. One of the birders looking for the Woodchat Shrike noticed that one of the ewes down the sheep field was lying on her back unable to turn over and stand. Without hesitation another birder jumped over the fence, went down the field and flipped the sheep over and it walked away. It seems that if a sheep is stuck lying on its back, it cannot expel gas from the rumen, and its lungs will eventually be crushed, leading it to die of suffocation - well done that man.
While watching the rescue I noticed a Little Ringed Plover down the field that I hadn't spotted previously.
Visited Aldcliffe Marsh yesterday morning in the hope of finding the reported Woodchat Shrike. Given the stormy conditions it was not surprising that the bird did not show in the time there. Did however see my first Swifts of the year as well as Wheatear and Little Egret around the pool where the Shrike had been reported. This is a really interesting location on the banks of the river Lune and will be worth another visit on a better day weatherwise.
