Paul Gorton photographed another colour ringed Black- headed Gull recently ( White UZK) at Bury Lido that's from Brondby in Denmark thats at least 15+ years old and it's first UK sighting in 7 recoveries..
Had a photo passed from Paul Gorton of a colour ringed Black-headed Gull (EUC4) on The Lido in Clarence Park, Bury which is from The Griend, Netherlands. E mailed the sighting off and be interesting to see its history
sunday went for a walk past the lido no hirundines, chiffchaff chesham woods. On to burrs female blackcap near the Brown cow pub, dipper, goosander pair on the river, plenty of non singing chiffchaff/willow warblers some catching insects in flight.Walked back round the lido and was treated to a flying display by about 30 swallows,6 sand martins and at least 2 house martins for about 30 min. till most flew off leaving about 6 swallows.
No goosanders on the lido only 5 seen in flight above, the model speed boat chasing round in circles did not help At a guess with the way elton has been frozen recently may account for recent numbers. the lido has been only partly frozen. I am of an age to remember goosanders being quite rare likely due to fishing policies, apologies to younger"bird nuts". sunday afternoon visit
