Little Grebe, Coot, Mute Swan, Reed Warbler, Willow Warbler on on near canal. On river was Curlew, Oystercatcher, Lapwing, Carrion Crow, Raven, Shelduck, Canada Goose, Cormorant, Eclipse Teal and Great Created Grebe
An unusual sighting of a pair of shoveler on hhe canal this afternoon. Willow warbler's numerous Blackcap heard. Reed Warbler sounded numerous along canal and a Raven overhead. A warbler type bird singing in hedgerows will have to go unidentified as didn't recognise the song and don't have the new apps for birdsong i.d

7 tufted ducks 4 little grebe with the usual mallards coots and moorhens on the canal 72 shelduck 9 curlew 2 oystercatcher and 1 redshank on the river 1 kestrel overhead
Spike island 1 Rudy shelduck on the river by lock gates 16 mute swan on canal with1 pr of tufted duck higher up canal female mallard with 11 tiny ducklings Widnes wharf on the marsh 3 wheatear meadow pipits skylarks and 1 pr of raven overhead nice to meet terry long yesterday
A lot of whitethroat around the area today, 4 wheatear on the marsh with many meadow pipits, skylarks and reed buntings, Reed Warbler and Cetti's warbler seen on the canal and also a hybrid Gadwall mating with a female Mallard.A flypast of a dozen or so Dunlin the highlight from the Warth, not much of note on the estuary, mostly LBB, BH gulls and Shelduck. Only 2xTeal seen today on estuary but there will have been more on the gully's in the marsh. A nice bonus on the way back past the railway on the path, around 3 or 4 sand martin overhead. Nice to put a face to the name today meeting Malcolm Roach on the patch
Great White Egret patrolling the marsh between spike island and the Gateway foundations also a single Swallow overhead. Cetti's Warbler heard along the canal and Willow Warblers in hedgerows. A pair of Wheatear was on the paddocks by the swing bridge with numerous Meadow Pipits. On the estuary Shelduck, Curlew, Oystercatcher and Lapwing, all the Teal have now moved on.
Widnes wharf. male whinchat on the marsh also Reed / willow / Cettis warbler blackcap whitethroat . On the canal coot moorhen mallard heron song thrushes and buzzard overhead

Wed 28.7.21: The whooper swan at Spike Island is still there after weeks. Saw it out of the water tonight and it's sporting a steel leg ring but couldn't read its numbers/letters. As tame as the large number of mutes it's joined with. Great to see one close up!
Apparently in was a injured bird that was released there by the RSPCA ,or that's what I read somewere.

Whooper Swan - single resting with Mute Swans (a total of 99 birds) on edge of canal and its not bothered by people or dogs wandering by. Suspect that this its possibly an escapee from somewhere?
more like towards 100 willow warblers today but far less concentrated , Blackcap and chiffchaff also seen. Common Sandpiper a patch first and good numbers of shelduck and 16 curlew on the low tide.
huge fall of willow warblers today ,the hedges along canal between warth and spike island dripping with them. Noticed 2 blackcaps in with them but easy over 100 willow warbler
3 wheatear on the paddock near the half a walkway at widnes warth 1 snipe on same field pair of Tufted Duck on canal sand martins and willow warblers passing through
highlights from a few recent walks in past fortnight Kingfisher- seen 3 or 4 times Raven-Also seen a few (17 in frodsham reported was interesting) Teal-numbers up from single bird earlier in the month to regular 20-30 Wigeon-single bird Redshank Curlew Lapwing Shelduck Reed bunting Linnet Meadow pipit Skylark Goldcrest-with party of LT tits mixed with Goldfinches Starling-numbers seem slightly higher than usual.
Had a short vist to spike island today doing some ground water survey work and spotted a adult Red-thoated diver on the river around high tide time, about 25ft out from the locks dont no why it was this far up river nice to see though MIKE
at least 2 willow warblers at the corner of wharth footpath today , first of the year. Some regulars noted incl. shelducks , curlew , linnet , meadow pipit , reed bunting , raven and buzzard.
