Turtle Dove present again this morning in gardens along the southern end of Grimeford Lane, Blackrod at approximately ///compose.epidemics.measures and occasionally getting into trees at the rear of the houses.
Please note that this is sensitive news given that the bird is in domestic gardens and resident’s privacy MUST be respected by any visiting birders. Also, access to the area is limited and parking very difficult, so please follow directions below until further notice.
Best parking currently appears to be in the layby off the A6 Chorley Road opposite the Cherry Tree pub at ///wins.boardroom.amphibian. Here a public footpath runs east (actually from the layby) and after a short distance joins another footpath running north/south along a small track. Take this footpath north towards Grimeford Lane until the houses along the lane itself are reached and the bird has been in this area. Please do not attempt to park along resident parking off Grimeford Lane or access/view gardens of any of houses. Birders should appreciate that seeing the bird may be very difficult to see.

Went to see a friend on Grimeford Lane last night and saw Turtle Dove on her lawn. More towards the A6 end of Grimeford Lane. Also saw Bullfinch and Nuthatch which was nice. Unfortunately I only had my phone with me to take photo. Ive zoomed it so not the clearest photos
A walk from Blundell Lane, around Aberdeen Farm, joining the canal at Aberdeen Bridge, down to Arley Moat and back up Arley Lane:
2 Curlews 3 Oystercatchers 1 Lapwing 2 Buzzards 1 Kingfisher 2 Common Terns fishing along the canal 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers 2 Linnets 3 Pied Wagtails (juvs) 1 Sand Martin 1 Nuthatch
Lots of Tree Sparrow activity, especially at Hollins Head, Aberdeen Farm, and Arley Dene - all told, about 30 birds, including juvs..
Re. the Terns - when I have seen them fishing at nearby Haigh Country Park (just to the South) I have always presumed that they come from the Wigan Flashes nesting site, but this pair flew towards Adlington - would the Wigan birds fish this far from `home` ??
