Looks like I'm the only one who has missed the Wood Warbler.

I went tonight at dusk (8-9) and there was no sign of it.

Although, it was worth going for the Woodpeckers which were frantically trying to out-drum and out-"kleck" each other.

I'll try again this weekend at a more sensible time.

Wood warbler still present & singing at 10:30 am. It's a bold little bird - I'd expected to spend a fair amount of time looking up waiting to get a good view but it flew from the canopy to the lower branches to investigate me & spent most of the time singing in full view. Worth the drive over from Saddleworth!smile.gif

Since John B had not seen the Wood Warbler we called in at Carr Wood after our trip to the Lune Estuary/Leighton Moss. The little chap was still singing his head off. He seems to be singing at all times; morning, afternoon and evening and given this is his eighth day in the wood he's done probably better than a 100 hours of singing and shaking biggrin.gif

Thanks to my Manx friend for guiding us into the site from an unfamiliar direction. John and I suffered no interuptions whilst we were there, very peaceful wink.gif

Wood Warbler still present at 10:15 when I left. Guards its territory very aggressively - chasing away all the birds which enter its patch.
Kingfisher flew up the 'stream' at 10:10.
Also Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Nuthatch.

Monday 2nd May 8.00-8.45am

Wood Warbler still present and very active in it's usual spot up to 8.45 when I left.
3 Blackcaps singing and chasing each other.
1 Kingfisher
Lots of the usual birds all in fine voice this morning.

A new location to explore. We will be up early and hopefully get the WW. Cannot remember if we have ever seen one before. We did hear one several years ago walking along by Derwent resevoir.

Hi John, the woods are nearest to bramhall. The way I got there originally was to take the A34 south from the M60 until you reach the A555. This should be signposted bramhall. Go to the end of the road, and take the A5149 north towards bramhall. When you get to bramhall centre, the road forks. Take the right hand one. Follow this road past bramhall train station and the then carr wood road is on your left. when at carr wood road, there are two paths. take the southern one (left hand side) on foot until you reach a stream, and the bird is around there by a fallen dead tree. Alternatively, get the train to bramhall station and walk from there to the woods. Hope this helps,

Singing away as per usual between 10:30 - 11:30, although he did become slightly more reserved towards the end before I left.

It's the 5th time I've been down there filming this lovely little bird and also had the added bonus today of a male kingfisher perching about 5m away from me on a low branch over the stream, allowing me to get 30 seconds of great up close footage!!

Also Nice to meet Rick Donkin and put another face to a name! I hope the bird perked up for you after I left!

Got it this morning at 09.00, a lovely confiding bird singing noisily.

Was along the brook as described earlier, just before a fallen tree crosses the path.

here between 3.30-5.00pm. WOOD WARBLER still showing off and doing some chasing. seeing off a robin,a chaffinch and another bird which i did not get a proper look at. just like john i too got some ok shots and a 2 min video off it preening and calling.smile.gif other birds off note..
blackcaps,blackbirds,robins,chaffinch,wood pigeons,blue tit,great tit,long tailed tit,and goldcrest, also heard tawny owl and great spotted woodpecker.

Wood warbler still giving some 'wellie' at 10.30 and giving great views so I have some ok shots and passable video. Great to here both its songs especially the flutty peeu peeu peeu. (This is what birding is all about!)

It was quite fascinating to see the amount of effort the Wood Warbler puts into it's song. It's whole body was vibrating, and it was singing a lot this morning. Must get pretty tired by the end of the day.
I too saw a Kingfisher on my way to the car. A Blackcap too up in the canopy.
A lovely spot.

Still around at 7.50 pm this evening. Quite high in the canpopy for most of the time, but still came down to give me some good views. I will pop back tomorrow to try and get some better photos.

Nice to meet Chris Chandler and Joe (apologies, can't remember your surname). Hope your pictures came out well.

Singing with gusto and showing very well 2.30pm just above log that juts out over the stream and crosses the path.

Any of you photographers out there you won't get a better opportunity than this!

Wood Warbler still present about 10:30 this morning , showing very well ,sometimes no more than 8 foot away,but never venturing far from his chosen territory . Singing constantly , and vigorously defending his chosen spot ,watched him have a prolonged ,acrobatic spat with an unfortunate great tit !!! Nice to bump into Scott Reid , and local birder Tony ...

Quick visit this evening and had cracking views of the Wood Warbler in it's favoured spot. A really showy bird this one!!

Nice to bump into Scott Reid who kindly borrowed me his bins as I had come straight from work just down the road from there.

The bird was still singing away at 6.45pm when we left.

Wood Warbler still present at 13:30 showing extremely well near fallen tree. Very vocal between feeding with both call and song. Met Liverpool birder John Tubb who had come by train to see the Wood Warblerbiggrin.gif.

Wood Warbler still present upto midday but singing slightly less often by then. What an excellent little thing. Thanks to John for getting the news out and to Geoff for the find. Also present along the valley between Pownall Green and Bramhall Hall were:

Between 06:20 and 07:20

Wood Warbler showing very well - seen first thing with Richard Norris and latterly with Iain Johnson. Nice to have met you both.

After crossing the footbridge follow the path to the right and you will come across a fallen tree over the path - just beyond this the Wood Warbler was feeding and singing away quite low down giving fantastic views. Flew around in a circle but stayed in the same vicinity for the hour I was there.

Also GSW drumming in distance and Willow Warbler singing.

Wood Warbler singing this afternoon.

Park (safely) on Carrwood Road and walk 100m south on footpath. Cross brook at footbridge and the bird was singing c30m along the east bank.
