As I got into my car I noticed a bird drop from a wall-a stunning male Stonechat was feeding on the roadside. Sadly not a common sight in Oldham these days!
Grey Partridge 2 Buzzard - 1 (also seen from A640 on 30th) Wheatear -1 Dipper Skylark - at least 5 on territory Meadow Pipit displaying Reed Bunting -1 male Oystercatcher 2
Brown Hare ( RSPB now have otters on their membership card so decided to include here, apols if there is a separate mammal thread?)
Please accept my humblest apologies. As penance I shall buy you a a pint and finest wigan pie for every mega that you find in the GM 200 clubhouse restaurant.
I seem to remember some ridicule when I started to cover Brun Clough on a regular basis. Birds found there in the last 12 months:-
Hobby LRP Ring Ouzel Whinchat Tree Pipit SEO Sand Martin
Now who's laughing.
There are plenty of birds to be found out there-they just need finding!Just look how many people visit Horwich Moors now after a few dedicated individuals found some good birds. It's all about coverage. You will all come running when I eventually turn up a Mega! hopefully you will still be able to run when I do
I think it's "boldly going where no right-minded birder has gone before"
In my experience, the most birdless place in the county is Readycon Dean Resr in the middle of December - one Meadow Pipit and a crow if you're lucky...
So, Riggers, keep boldly going, onwards and upwards...
