9.15am to 10.00am. A quick walk around the park before my weekly volunteering session with Friends of Moss Bank Park. 13 species recorded in total, only species worth mentioning was a single Brambling in the Beech trees overhanging the Walled Garden.
Walking up Forest Road this afternoon I notice a bird flying from the ledge on Barrow Bridge Chimney where the Peregrine perches though my bins were still in my rucksack (it could have been a Carrion Crow scavenging on a peregrine's prey item). As I got closer the heavens opened so I up packed my waterproofs and bins from my pack. I walk along Moss Lane towards Barrow Bridge and passed the Chimney on reaching the house Dell Croft Cottage I checked the ledge on that side of the chimney without success. The rain turn to hail so I decided to short my walk and headed down Smithills Croft Road again I turned to observe the ledge on the chimney and again without success. I walked up the cobbled path that runs from the hairpin bend on Smithills Croft Rd to the Limefield estate as I got near the Primary School on Smithills Dean Rd I again looked at the chimney and this time I could see a bird perched on the ledge I walked back towards the chimney via Jesmond Rd and from there managed to identify it as a Peregrine.
10.30 this am: Peregrine falcon seen on stone ledge of the big chimney. Seen during our dog walk in the Park, NE point of ledge near the clump of grass.
By 10.45 it had moved to a due East point on the ledge, and was difficult to see from the park.
My first sighting since January 2015!

Arriving at the car park with dog at 9.43, I thought I glimpsed two birds on the chimney ledge. Immediately a largish Peregrine was in aerial combat with a larger Raven sized bird. The Peregrine stooped a few time to see it off, towards Halliwell. After some victory laps, the Peregrine was back on the ledge at 9.48 Also seen were loose flocks of Chaffinch and Blue Tits (12+ Chaffinch). One of the Carrion Crows, here, had white bars right across the middle of it's wings. 15 Mallards and a Moorhen on the car park lodge.
