And when you say it was brown, is that dark or light brown? And was it the same shade of brown on both the upperparts and lowerparts? Did it have any markings, like streaks or specks, or any facial markings? Did you notice the colour of the bill or the legs? Also, when it was running, did it stoop with it's head down, or did it hold it's head up high?
It would be impossible to identify the bird from the information you have given, but if you could give any of the above then that might help to start ruling things out...

I NEED HELP ON THIS ONE. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT SAID PIED WAGTAIL FROM THE OBVIOUS WAG TAIL,UNDULATING FLIGHT AND THE HABIT OF RUNNING ABOUT. THE ONLY THING IS WAS THAT IT WAS BROWN AND I MEAN TOTALLY BROWN.I WATCHED IT FOR 3 MINUTES SO I AM SURE OF WHAT I SAW. HAS ANYONE ANY IDEAS , REGARDS MIKE
