Smithy Brook runs down the full length of the middle of Blundell's Wood, from Billinge Road just south of Ribbesford Road through to Pemberton Colliery. It's a lot cleaner since the construction of the minewater treatment plant mentioned by Neil Ferguson in the 'Highfield, Wigan' thread.

Hi Dave. Whereabouts is Smithy Brook in the woods? I live just near Blundells but have never ventured into it...just ventured into the Venture!!

approx 40 Siskin on Pemberton Colliery today in Birches along Smithy Brook below the minewater treatment lagoons
drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker and singing Goldcrest in Blundell's Wood

Kingfisher today at the Smithy Brook minewater treatment pools
also in the vicinity: 2 Goldcrest, 2 Reed Bunting, several Meadow Pipits moving south
