Sunday 27th Jan... lunchtime visit.

- adult Iceland Gull

Appeared on the grass infront of the College on Winwick Rd briefly before flying off. I then had it showing beautifully on the small football pitch behind Decathlon.
It was minding its own business when suddenly 2 huge Herring Gulls flew in and started attacking it. They were mean looking with strong heavy bills. One of them really went for it, and had white feathers still on the end of its bill after the Iceland Gull flew off.
I refound it again back at the college where it stayed for about 5 minutes looking really nervous, before flying off towards MacDonalds and Tesco. I didnt see it again.

Nice to see Rob Smallwood again.

Two great long distance migrants in Warrington today 2 Waxwing at Church street and I found the Adult Iceland Gull by Decathlon this morning that has returned as an adult to the area now for 6 Winters and it was great to see it back again ,I estimate this gull assuming its going back to Greenland to breed has done 24000 miles traveling back and too to Warrington from its Breeding area in the time I have been watching it ,I had it 2nd January 2013 the first time and saw it briefly on and off each winter up to last winter when it was ever present from Jan-May,so great to see her back :)

quick scoot over to Milner street VW this morning in the hope of Waxwings was fruitless but in the vicinity were 200 Redwing and 100 Fieldfare feeding on the Berries around the site, and that normally bodes well for a few Waxwings to arrive, but they will have to hurry up as there are very few Berries left with many of the trees already stripped bare .

Wilderspool Causeway

A pair of Lesser Black Backed Gulls have been on territory close to the site of the former rugby stadium for more than a month.

I have seen them with at least one chick on a nearby flat roof, which they have vigorously defended.

Around lunchtime there was a very noisy fracas as an adult Lesser Black Back flew low along the road with two others in pursuit.

The fleeing gull had what looked like a blackbird sized chick in it's beak, and it flew from the roof where I had seen the chicks.

I'm pretty confident that I witnessed cannibalism gull style as the parent birds now appear to have moved away.

Afternoon visit with Paul Baker.

- adult Iceland Gull
Finally located it on Tile Giant roof after we tried all the various locations it's been seen at previously. It didn't stay long though as it was flushed and driven off by a Lesser Black-backed Gull.

Not exactly Warrington town centre but a Kestrel hovering over field adjacent to Winwick Lane as you approach roundabout for M6 at around 10am this morning - dry but breezy, 10 degrees centigrade.  Buzzard over field south of M62 and a few hundred metres east of IKEA.
