RE: Brun Clough Reservoir, Oldham

A evening mooch produced 2 Brun Clough mega's.

A Sand Martin flew over the res at 1915 into deepest Diggle, then as we were leaving the car park, a raptor was seen at some distance. As it came into view-a Hobby

Perhaps that was why it was called The 'Floating' Light

Come to think of it, what am I doing up here in this lousy weather - must have caught the Rigby virus

Steve

.........................................................................

Must admit I had same thought on Sunday morning but then realised I have had the virus for years for these obscure venues. A glutton for punishment.

What's worse is that I used to walk to them all........................ now I get tired out going up in the car.................... pass the oxygen.

Another Brun Clough phenomena......... as soon as you open the car door and stand erect........ it starts to rain. No wonder the Floating Light ceased trading if it depended on summer trade.

Brood of 9 Tufted ducklings with proud parents this lunchtime.

Is this an altitude breeding record for this species?

I noted 2 Common Sandpipers yesterday (Sat) evening. Also a couple of Twite and plenty of Lapwing.

Using the Roger Baker geographical system, this site should be known as "up the road from the Floating Light" but it's no longer a pub

There was high counts on Saturday at both Castleshaw, Brun Clough, Audenshaw Res and Horwich Moors.

Saturday morning had quite a bit of low cloud early on which might account for a fall of migrant Wheatear. I found a few up on Saddleworth Moor in places which don't seem like ideal breeding habitat (though I'd like to be proved wrong and add a new Confirmed Breeder for the Atlas!).

Cheers, Steve

A solitary Wheatear (no, not a new species of Oenanthe) just a single, on it's own, just one, on it's jack..........the only bird present at 1745.

2 Black-tailed Godwit (a figment of my imagination) were seen flying over the moors. Must have come from Penny! biggrin.gif
