A walk over to Higher Swineshaw this morning 07.45/12.15 the weather was sunny with a slight breeze.
After parking up we were greeted with Green Woodpecker yaffling but went unseen.
We walked upto the Apple Stop and recorded Blue Tit, Great Tit, Dunnock, Robin, Crow, Raven, Rook, Jackdaw, Magpie, Lapwing, Curlew, Pheasant, Blackbird, Black headed Gull, Canada Goose, Meadow Pipit, Mallard, Sparrowhawk, Nuthatch, Pied Wagtail, Goldfinch, Stock Dove, Wood Pigeon, Barn Swallow, Skylark and Red legged Partridge.
Moving down to Higher Swineshaw Reservoir we picked up Kestrel, Common Buzzard, Willow Warbler, Stonechat, Wheatear, Grey Wagtail, Reed Bunting and Common Sandpiper.
We heard Wren, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Chaffinch and best of all a Grasshopper Warbler reeling that we could just not locate despite being thirty foot away.
All in all a good mornings walk of around 7 miles whilst seeing a few birds.
Walk to Middle Bank this morning, 7:30 until 9:00. Cold and a bit of mizzle. Two male wheatear the best birds at Middle Bank. Two Curlew calling there also plus a Red-legged Partridge. Three Swallow, and a couple or so each of Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler on the way there and back.
200+Redwing and Fieldfare in small copse near Hollingsworth Hall Farm, 2 Treecreeper, 4 Nuthatch, 1+ Great Spotted Woodpecker, Mistle Thrush in full song, Pied Wagtail, Common Buzzard and 2 Raven were the highlights.
Failed to connect with the Snow Bunting this morning, but it was seen well by another birdwatcher on Hollingsworth Hall Moor. 5 Golden Plover through, Peregrine Falcon over, 100+ Redwing and a few Fieldfare, Treecreeper, 4 Nuthatch, Goldcrest were seen between 09:30 and 11:15.
Probable Yellow Browed Warbler near Hollingworth Hall farm with tit flock. 2 calls sounded bang on, but couldn't get a sight of it in the 5 minutes of the flock being around. Frustrating.
Walk up around Middle Bank this morning. 3 Wheatear, circa 20 Curlew, Swallow, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, one Blackcap heard, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tit, Nuthatch, Redpoll (2), Song Thrush, Sparrowhawk over.

Flock of c8 Crossbill near Landslow Green A few Brambling with c25 Chaffinch beyond Hollingworth Hall Farm. 2 Green Woodpecker heard, one at the top of Cow Lane and one on the edge of Swallows Wood at Lower Bank Plenty of Long-tailed Tits, 2 Mistle Thrush 2 Treecreeper 5 Nuthatch Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 Kestrel
2 Brambling with 18 Chaffinch near Hollingworth Hall Farm at 9am. Also 27 Meadow Pipit, Peregrine Falcon, 2 Kestrel, Common Buzzard, Bullfinch, 3 Nuthatch, 2 Stock Dove.
7 Rook feeding in the field at side of lay-by at the fork.
Around a dozen finches were feeding at the lay-by under the first Beech trees on way up but were flushed by a passing car before I got bins on them ..... as I said at the time "Dear Me" !

Yes beautiful on Hobson Moor Road this morning, some great birds, 1 Ring Ouzel male at Hobson Moor and even better a Red Kite over heading north, at about 830 am. 4 more Ring Ouzel at Middle Bank, 10+ Wheatears and 2 Red-legged Partridge. Also 22 and 2 Golden Plover over Hobson Moor and a House Martin at Hall Farm
Beautiful weather this morning if a little chilly! Highlights 5 Wheatear at Middle Bank plus a single Swallow over there. Also Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Wagtail, Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk annoying a mixed tit flock in some gorse.
Green Woodpecker, 5 Red Grouse, 100+ flock of Redwing and mostly Fieldfare, 2 Nuthatch, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Meadow Pipit, Common Buzzard, Raven, 30 Rook.
Cuckoo again this morning. Also Green Woodpecker, Raven, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 6 Wheatear, 2 Stonechat, 6 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Kestrel, Lapwing.

Male Wheatear was my first of the year. Also 2 Curlew, 2 Lapwing, 2 Stonechat, Swallow, Skylark, Stock Dove, Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, Nuthatch, 5 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff.
