After struggling through the snow to get to work this morning then being sent home due to everyone else not being able to get in I was rewarded with 5 Siskins and 2 Lesser Redpoll in my garden. Also plenty of Redwings flying in and out and 1 Song thrush and 5 Blackbirds sat on the lawn eating Xmas cake
Large flock of Goldfinches through the garden together with at least 5 Male Bullfinches and a possible Brambling amongst them. It decided to fly off just as I got my bins on it!!!
12 Lesser Redpolls (competing with the goldfinches on the niger for over a week now) 11 Woodpigeons (at the feeding area) 10 Robins (relentlessly chasing each other)
most exciting - for only the second time in 15 years both a House Sparrow and a Bullfinch! (I am remote from other dwellings and 900' up near Glossop)
I had reed buntings in my garden for the last three days, at least 6 birds. Although I live near to the canal at Radcliffe this is the first time I have seen them here. I think me being away for a week gave them some peace and quiet to move in. Also at least 12 goldfinch taking turns at the feeder.
Thought it might be interesting to start this thread as bad weather is forecast for a while, bringing more birds into gardens for food.Would be interesting to see what unusual/large numbers of birds people get visiting their feeders.Today so far had the following:- 2 Great Spots(m/f) 6 Tree Sparrows 2 Bullfinch 25 Blackbirds 18 Woodpigeons 1 Long Tailed Tit 1 Mistle Thrush 2 moorhen plus the usual tits, robins, chaffinch, greenfinch etc.
