Family day out to the Safari Park. Green Sandpiper feeding on a roadside pool just 10ft from my car. Camera battery had just died and spare in the boot
Andrew, my sister-in-law lives about a mile from the safari park and she regularly has Red Legged Partridge in her garden - in fact the female with three chicks trotted across her lawn a couple of weeks ago. I have also seen them in the fields behind the park -so yes they are quite common in the area.
I took the kids to Knowsley Safari Park today (probably a bad start).
There were three red-legged partridges there. I don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but I also would be interested to know to what extent they are wild. They were simply pecking away in an open, muddy field, and the second time we saw them they had moved quite far (so presumably flew).
I've never seen this species before, so I was looking at them when everyone else was looking at exotic African beasts.
