I bet you will have seen this already but http://www.birdtours.co.uk/tripreports/Spain/almeria-index.htm has links to a number of trip reports from this area, although they are a bit dated (the one based in Mojacar was from 1999).
Not birded down that way - just done Costa Blanca areas and Pyrenees - so can't really advise.
Away from birding, we had a couple of days in Granada last March. Well worth a visit if you get the chance. The backdrop of the snow covered Sierra Nevada was stunning.

Have the usual "Where to watch" books etc,so familiar with Cabo de Gata and Roquetas areas, but wondered if anyone had been recently to this part of Spain and therefore any first hand info?
