Main lake...50+ Tufted Duck with 1 Great Crested Grebe Countless Coot, Mallard, Canada Goose 1 Grey Heron and 2 Cormorants on the wooden island. Further round near the wooden jetty...roughly another 40 Canada Goose, 1 Lapwing, and mixed Common and Black Headed Gulls in good numbers. 3 Mute Swans (1 near full grown Cygnet) the 2 adults readily feed from your hand as they did today. What annoyed me here was a man and woman with a youngster and a Staffy, encouraging the dog to go for the Swans, not the dogs fault...and I might add...IT DIDN'T GO FOR THEM !!! They soon went when I went over. Idiots!
Feeding Station...the usual Bullfinch, Chaffinch, about 35 Goldfinch, Robin, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, and a lone Willow Tit, very active.
Apparently the Ranger here informs me they do well here, 3 breeding pairs no less last year, great news!
Weds 23/1/13 Called in on my lunch break. Plenty of Tufted Duck, Coot, Mallard, Mute Swan. Walked round to the feeding station at the back of the visitor centre... Bullfinch, Chaffinch, Blackbird, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Long Tailed Tit, and it was either Willow Tit or Marsh Tit, watched it for a good 10 mins but without binocs or camera I couldn't get a positive ID
4 drake Pochard here this morning, plus a flock of c40 Redwing.
There were 13 Gadwall and c55 Tufted Duck here last Sunday (21/10). Numbers of both these species appeared to be down somewhat today, with the Tufted Duck count only around half of that noted last week. It was also nice to meet and to have a good natter with Tony Hill at Blackleach last Sunday morning.

Keep looking out for the Water Rail But efforts to date are to no avail With the recent spell of cold and ice A sighting today would have been nice Still four shoveler plus gadwall female and drake At least put a little bit of icing on the cake
