The fields have been ploughed this week resulting in a gull fest,at least a thousand mixed gull,s following the tractors and resting in the furrows,(one pair of very Yellow Legs spotted but I,m no guller)
of note a tree preservation order has been placed on the wood
18 Mute Swan feeding on grass fields north of Bryn Gates Lane this morning - surprisingly easily hidden in what is still a relatively short sward 2 Grey Partridge and singing Skylark
In fields off Bryn Gates Lane at 14:00ish: 10 Greylag Goose 4 Canada Goose 5 Mallard 6 Grey Partridge 1 Common Pheasant 1 Common Kestrel 2 Northern Lapwing 10 Common Black-headed Gull c10 Sky Lark
Monday 19 October 2009 near Bamfurlong Police Station @ 14:00ish:
12 Grey Partridge 14 Black-headed Gull Still loads of Skylark a couple of Mipits a mixed flock of Linnet and Greenfinch (couldn't count them) 2 Buzzard 1 Kestrel some corvids
in ploughed fields either side of Bryn Gates Lane, near Bamfurlong Police Station: 2 Yellow Wagtail 5+ Pied Wagtail over 100 Skylark! lots of Black-headed Gull, Lapwing and Starling a few Linnet and Mipit 4 Buzzard 1 Kestrel also I saw some Pinkfeet to the north (see pinkfeet thread)
Just ask to see his warrant card next time your asked,then tell him to mind his own business ,next time, maybe ask doe,s he own the land or just rent it

This evening, while parked up on Land Gate Lane, I was scanning the fields (or should that be the fences around the fields?) at Land Gate farm, when a 4x4 pulled up and wound down the window (do you still call it winding with electric windows?). The following conversation ensued: Man in 4x4, "what are you doing?" Me, "just birdwatching (pointing at binoculars in hand), why?" 4x4 Man, "'cuz I own all this land, what are you looking at?" Me, "Birds" 4x4 Man, "what birds (lookin around him), there are no birds"
a Green Sandpiper on flooded part of the tip near Bamfurlong police station this afternoon, then flew towards Wigan Flashes. Info thanks to Jimmy Meadows.
I accidentally typed Wogan Flashes then. Maybe the flashes should be renamed to mark his retirement from radio 2
Sunday 06 September 2009 around midday near Bamfurlong Police Station:
3+ Yellow Wagtail (at least one adult) in corn field 13 Skylark flying around together loads of Reed Buntings with a small flock of Goldfinch and Linnets a mixed flock of hirundines and what looked like a pair of Peregrines distant to the north.
