Sorry to correct you Mike/Tony but the Style Line (built 1909) crosses the Mersey in East Didsbury adjacent to the A34. Trains run every 20 mins from Manchester Piccadilly to the Airport. To entirely pedantic, all of Fletcher Moss, Millgate Fields, The Waterside Hotel and Parrswood High School are in the Didsbury East Ward

There is also the railway bridge adjacent to the A34 (Kingsway) which would be included in this area. These sightings should really be in the Stockport to East Didsbury thread David
Thats true, its entirely possible I have allowed myself to be mislead by the thread title

sorry to be an extreme pedant but the railway doesn't cross the river, unless you were in the town centre under the railway viaduct of course - in which case, apologies.
I know there are a number of places where a long since defunct railway used to cross, bridge supports and brickworks still visible.
The only crossings now are Manchester Road (the B5095, near the Waterside Hotel) where I have seen Dipper a few times in the last 4 years and the major crossings at the Cheadle E.T.W. and at The Pyramid roundabout - the M60.
Neil, is the Sand Martin colony still in the area ? They used to nest in the taller parts of the river bank opposite the hotel. Last February I was told of a Dipper under that bridge.
