Water Rail - 1 seen catching a small fish Cetti's Warbler - 2 heard singing Siskin - small mixed flock, with goldfinches, in alders (<20 birds in total). Fieldfare - a few scattered birds
Ploughed field (viewed from boardwalk at SE end of mere) - variety of species present:
Oystercatcher 2 Skylark 1 White Wagtail 2 (couple of Pied Wagtails too) Wheatear 1 - fine male Other species in the same field - Black-headed Gulls, Woodpigeons, Feral Pigeons, Stock Doves (2), Song Thrush
Cold and grey with squally showers. Fairly strong easterly wind at times. Walked along path on south side. Difficult conditions but selected a few species for counting - especially coots which were clearly numerous.
Wigeon 6 Teal <5 Gadwall c10 Tufted Duck - fairly common Goldeneye 4 Goosander 1 Coot c450 Jack Snipe - one flushed, silently at my feet, crossing a squelchy mire
park lane berry bush, I was surprised to see a one man twitch this morning,so i stopped to ask what was going on, result 1 waxwing very good close views of this fiesty loner,it,s been there a few days. cheers geoff
