2 Cormorant, 4 Tufties (3 m), 5 Coot (best here for some time), 5 Moorhen, Little Grebe (developing breeding plumage) + usual Mallard, Canadas & BH gulls. Dipper and pair Grey Wagtail on river.
short walk this morning produced various tits (1 long tail with nesting material) 3 cormorants 4 herons on the heronry was hoping for an early chiff chaff green woodpecker heard and the biggest suprise 3 roe deer also new rookery (see post in rookery section)
WeBS counts at Royal George Lodge this morning included:
3 Little Grebe (a site record?) 3 Tufted Duck (2m, 1f) 2 Goosander (pair) 2 Coot 3 Moorhen 148 Canadas (breeding pairs now separating from the big flock)
Colour ringed Dipper on River Tame behind Greenfield sewage works.(orange over White on right leg, blue on left) Grey Wagtail and c30 Pied Wagtail on filter beds
River tame between kingfisher res and new tesco Wednesday 15.30ish 2 dippers both ringed Very difficult with cold and wind but The best I could see was One bird orange on both One bird orange right yellow left
Royal George lodge 09.30-10.30 Must have just missed you Steve Goosander 8 4m 4f Little grebe 2 Cormorant Coot 2 On river Grey herons 4 Moorhen 2 Canada geese 140+ woodpigeon 13 Mallard 30+ on the canal and looked as if waiting to be fed
2 little grebe present again on the Royal George pond at 9.00 am Monday morning, also about a dozen goosander on the river by the sewage works. Plus a couple of redpoll on the feeders above the bowling green.
A quick walk round this morning, there were about 10 goosanders on the river where it bends next to the sewage works, plus a couple of bullfinch, but little else.
Steve, a little culinary tip that may come in handy as the recession bites. Many years ago, I was told by an old bloke who did a bit of poaching, that you cannot pluck a moorhen......... you have to skin them like a rabbit. The feathers won't come out, think it's something to do with their waterproofing. I've waited over 60 years for this one to come up in a pub quiz. Funny how some things stick in your memory....... I couldn't remember chemical formula for 10 minutes and French even less.

Couldn't find the Little Grebes, Stuart, so glad you managed to locate them.
Everything crammed into the little bit of unfrozen water. There were over 100 Canadas when I was there. Also 1 Coot and a Cormorant. Plenty of Goosander on the river.
quick look on the royal george/manns this morning 3 moorhen, 2 heron ,11 mallard,30-40 canada geese+large flock of black headed gulls also 2 little grebes(yes little grebes) showing well through a hole in the ice on the royal also 5 long tail tits

a quick walk behind the sewage works this morning produced a large flock of tits mainly long tailed , 1 heron ,1 g,s,woodpecker , 2 flyover cormarant and 3 goldcrest very close but camera at home
Saturday 6.11.10 - early morning in post bonfire mist, almost freezing!
3 female Tufties on Royal George Lodge - scarce sighting these days. Also one Little Grebe on the lodge and another across the road on the pond at Manns.
First post from this area in almost a month - have all the locals given up?
Best ever count of Mallards (104) at the Royal George/Manns WeBS site. Also 100+ Canada Geese. Little Grebe back on site (maybe it stayed all summer?).

chiffchaffs & willow warblers all along freizland bridle path all singing ,3 long tailed tits ,2 active nests on heronry hard to see any more due to fresh leaf growth
Now 8 occupied nests in Heronry. Dipper taking oak leaves to line its nest. 2 singing Chiffchaffs. Very noisy Green Woodpecker. Half a dozen Lesser Redpoll.
had a pair of siskins on nyjer this morning along with 2 redpolls and a goldie first ones for some time not like year 2005/2006 winter when there were a maximum of 13 on the feeders and more in the trees waiting there turn ,still no bramblings it would apear the station house has the monopoly on those
At least 9 Brambling in trees by the old station house yesterday (Sun) morning, partially made up for complete absence of Dippers which I was looking for.
