Yesterday, around 4pm as I drove along Armadale Road: A Sparrowhawk flew from the copse by the flats, then glided very low down the centre of the road for 40 yards before turning into a garden.

Evensong yesterday from 2 Song Thrush. One seen by the 9th green of the golf course. The other heard, from Ladybridge lane, very close in Bank Wood. Kestrel seen one evening last week, from my lounge armchair, hunting over the course. Lady Bridge( the bridge at Ladybridge lane) will soon be closed for 3 months for a major uplift to allow for the electrification of the railway.

1610 hours today: 24 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, in formation, over our estate and along the Middlebrook Valley; heading west. Gulls going to roost are a common site here most evenings. Usually heading W or WNW, presumably to Rivington Reservoirs.

A singing Mistle Thrush at dawn this am on Lombardy Poplar near my house. Heard earlier in the week from the adjacent White Poplar on the walkway. Now seen again feeding on grass near trees. Fair to assume this is the one coming into my garden.

Just now; At least one Buzzard, possibly two, passing over the far side of the estate towards Dean Clough. Initially seen from my dining room window. Managed to get out with bins to check one out. Saw one here on same vector/time last week, but I was not quick enough then, to verify in poor light. After the glut of Buzzards passing over Ladybridge early last year, this is my first sighting here, since April 2014.

Noon today: 20+ Winter thrushes, coming and going, to feed on the famous Rimsdale Walk berry trees, near the Community Centre. Mainly Fieldfare but a few Redwing amongst......Flighty birds. Several Blackbirds present, in addition. Unlike the local Hawthorn these trees hold their berries well through the winter. ( being Himalayan Cotoneaster) Also late post from yesterday... Sparrowhawk, from back gardens and then across the open grass area near the centre Postbox.

The pesky Parakeet nailed at last!! 3pm today: As I climbed towards the top of the hill on Crosshill Walk, a squawking Ring-necked Parakeet flew below roof height across the top of Marnland Grove. Immediately I picked the bird up in Laurel in the back garden of the end house in this cul -de- sac. The tree was next to the walkway and had recently been pruned so I got good view of the male Ring-necked Parakeet at eye level and at 20 yards. Here just across the walkway, there is a grass triangle with several tall poplars etc. The bird eventually flew into these estate trees and dense foliage.

Male Ring-necked Parakeet eating apple core in our garden this morning. Previous visitor was a female. These birds have now been in the area for 2 weeks.
A Spotted Flycatcher in the Galloway Close trees at 7am today. Flitting about and perching up, giving good views before flying back across the Walkway into the dense school copse. This copse of trees is signed as a ''Nature Garden'' and is shared by the 2 schools there. It is seriously overgrown. No sign of the Parakeets despite a full circuit of the western hill and the near Rumworth hedges. Still it's something to be the only man left standing who has not seen them!
