A message off my cousin earlier asking what was this beauty of a bird? Her and her husband live in Hopwood and know the owners of Birch Farm. This Harris Hawk was on the farm fencing today.

Pink footed goose skein of 120 SW very high, heard 2 more betwen 8 til 9 but couldn t see

House Martin 2 seen briefly after showers stopped then moved on Swallow at least 8 family/local birds? Apppeared just after above and grew in numbers feeding and perching on telephone wires until I leave early afternoon Redwing at least 8 birds feeding on hawthorns More that usual song thrush, robin and goldcrests
Grasshopper reeling this morning and yesterday evening in the fields between Crimble Lane and Heywood cemetery. Other birds of note included: 1 Reed Bunting 1 Common Whitethroat 2 noisy juvenile Kestrels on the pylon

Highlight being a singing reed warbler in the small phragmites patch at west end of brook below housing estate Lesser whitethroat at least one along hawthorns on lane Many Blackcaps whitethroats willow warblers and chiffchaffs
A Lesser Whitethroat singing and showed well this evening. Third year on the trot for me along here. Other birds seen included: 1 Bullfinch 5 Lapwings 1 Reed Bunting 3 Mistle Thrush 1 Blackcap 2 Chiffchaff Plenty of Swallows across the fields

1 Grasshopper Warbler reeling in the marshy grass 1 Common Whitethroat 1 Kingfisher 2 Grey Herons 1 Jay Lots of the usuals in good song, including Blackcaps, Willow Warblers and Chiffchaff
First Swallow of the year for me over the River Roch by Crimble Mill. Willow Warbler singing along Crimble Lane Dipper along the river 3 Chiffchaff 2 Bullfinch 4 Sand Martins 1 Blackcap

In the fields that are between Crimble Lane and Heywood cemetery: Grasshopper Warbler heard reeling for some time this evening, but not seen. I had to go back to be sure it was what I was hearing over the din of the road. First time Ive heard one in this area. Other birds of note included: 1 Kestrel 1 Common Buzzard 1 Reed Warbler 2 Common Whitethroat 1 Willow Warbler 1 Chiffchaff Good numbers of Swallows and House Martin

Blackcap at least 2 singing White throat at least 3 singing Chiffchaff at least 3 singing Willow Warbler at least 2 singing Garden warbler 1 singing from dense trees shrubs on Chadwick lane side Reed warbler 1 singing for 3 minutes mid afternoon in Phragmites at Green lane end
