It was not me, in the immortal word I DONT BELIEVE IT ? how the hell I missed that I will never know the lad who picked it up didn,t think I was interested in a pheasant type bird
Following the discovery of a calling bird on Aug 16th and 20th on the east side of Bury, one was heard on a farm in the extreme west of the county on 26th September. On 27th one was picked up in Chapel Walks nr Cross St in the city centre by the RSPCA, taken to Three Owls bird sanctuary in Rochdale, and later taken to a sanctuary in Norfolk which is helping with the reintroduction programme in that area. (thanks to Gordon Yates, who picked this up from the current edition of the Rochdale Observer where there is a picture of the bird with Nigel Fowler from Three Owls, and Dave Wilson, who heard the September 26th bird)
