I took a stroll around the top just as the light was starting to go. Part cloud, sun and blue sky , lovely. I was rewarded by a hunting Kestrel, flying and hovering low and almost overhead. it looked superb against the fading blue sky. I could see it's eyes. It "hung" around for about 8 mins. Nothing else apart from the odd crow.
We three walked across the Romiley Golf Course, past Benfield and up the valley to come on top of the Low near the Radio masts. Then over and down to Lord Derby Road and back to Greave. Superb walk, with a fair amount of snow in places.
Loads of Redwing in the woods on the Golf Course, along with Goldfinch and a tree creeper, also Redpoll.
Coal tit/Blue Tit and Great Tit and Redwing in the valley's, and a flock of Lapwings overhead on top of the low
Tawny owl heard tonight just at sunset from the path between Windy Harbour and the cenotaph! Possibly in the wooded area at the bottom of the hill, behind the house
Around 100 lapwings in fields opposite the Hare and Hounds pub, along with a large amount of what looked like starlings, but could have been anything of that size (no binoculars with me).....there was peace until something must have spooked them as every bird there took to the skies....no BOP around so possibly a ground predator in the grass??
