A Short-eared Owl was getting mobbed by a peregrine above Jct 17 of the M60 seen from my apartment this morning for about 5 minutes before going off south.
seen from my apartment - over tesco then lost behind trees, managed to get bins on it but could only see it flying away, a big white bird with black on its its wings... cant think anything else it could be but would have liked a better view
Second Winter Survey for SD80 C - area around the flat.
Lots of Singing and displaying going on today spring has sprung! plenty of birds around in the urban area's and it was clear that some species have suffered over the cold snap such as wrens being the most noticeable!
Siskin 10 a noisy flock flew into a garen along Thatch leach lane Collared Dove 14 in the area with a lot of displaying Long-tailed Tit 24 ( couple of flocks largest 7) Coal tit 2 (with above) GSW and a flock of 14 Greenfinch 14 Goldfinch & 4 Chaffinch
Blackbird, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Great Tit Blue tits all in song
Waxwing - 4 in park off thatch leach lane - flew towards besses Bullfinch 13 Fieldfare 54 north Lapwing 2 SW Spahawk. Long-tailed Tits - flocks of 14 and 22 Blue tit 49 Coal tit 2 Goldcrest 2 Jay 3 GSW Goldfinch 24
Collared Dove and Woodpigeon singing and also in courtship and display.
The Short-eared Owl was picked up amongst corvids mobbing it @ 7.28 it managed to shake them off and circled round several times gaining height and went off SE
A Flock of 17 Whoopers flew south down the Irwell Valley and across Salford @ 7.53.
a Massive movement of Pinkfeet with 19 Skeins approx or circa 2989 in total but this count will be out due to the distance of some of the birds. (and lumping all the skiens together in this total)
7.40 - 9.10 up too late to get to Heaton Park so watched from the apartment - lots of activity today so no need to look through peoples windows - as Ian reckons!! Think the height helped with the counts.

Peregrine male - stooped at something right over flat and seen a further 3 times - this is the bird seen at heaton park yesterday.
Got up early today to see what spring vis mig was like managed an hour before having to go back to bed (taking strong pain killers at moment which are knocking me out)
