Whatever you eventually purchase Mark, tripods are an often overlooked accessory, so pay as much as you can afford and it will bring out the best in your scope, they really can make that much difference.
I've got a Cullman video tripod which is pretty sturdy. The quick release plate is very good and allows me to swap with my DSLR. Got mine at Focalpoint near Northwich.
Hi Mark I use the same scope as you which is on top of a Velbon Delta ph157q tripod , its lightweight and I have had no problems with it. Pay a visit to the In focus shop at Martin mere , you can try out your scope on different tripods and find one which suits you.
ive just bought myself an opticron es 80 ga ed after making do with a cheap scope for far too long. trouble is, i now need a new sturdy tripod for it and ive got no idea what to look for. im skint now so the top models are out but i would like a decent solid pod with a smooth head (for tracking the unidentified shearwaters at porthgwarra). any advise would be greatly appreciated
