What looked like 2 Peregrine circling high over the Scholes area at 13:30 today, spooking all the pigeons. Viewed only with the naked eye while driving in traffic near the Jobcentre.
On Sunday I saw a dozen or so Fieldfares on the car park of an industrial estate near Sainsburys at Marus Bridge. I was wondering if this is early for Fieldfares?
amazed this morning to see a juvenile wheatear on the fence behind my house as I live in a built up area on the edge of town.good bird for my "from the window" list.
Beech hill to standish wood lane circular Evening stroll 18.30 - 20.45 Whitethroat Yellowhammer Common Buzzard Mistle Thrush x 8 Plus usuals Cheers Karl
The young Ravens have flown but come back to nest site regularly seen both yesterday and today not sure where they go but more than likely not very far from the nest site.
A Buzzard drifted over the Parish church this afternoon only to be met and driven off by one of the local Ravens, driving up from Scholes to Whelley a Carrion Crow was trying to get into a Magpie nest whist the Magpies were present, the traffic lights changed and I had to carry on my way but the Magpies were getting fairly aggressive towards the Crow
Another sighting of Peregrine in Wigan. This one was on the church tower of St. James with St. Thomas on Tipping Street (just off Poolstock Lane). It was sat high up on the side facing the town centre, on top of of one of the large gargoyles. I watched it for 10 mins, returned 20 minutes later, it was still there but now feeding on a kill. Not sure if this is a different bird to the one reported to earlier on the Parish Church tower in the centre of Wigan. Great to see.
Noticed a Raven's new nest in different location Friday morning. Couldnt believe how well constructed given timescale. Looks a bit precarious though! Mick
Ravens nest blown down and was lying at the side of the road this morning. strangely no sign of any eggs or egg shell. surprised by the amount of wool they used. bit of a sickner
For the third day running a flock of around eight-10 Redwings are feeding on a holly tree in a garden in Hodges Street.
Seen them on this tree before but only in really cold spells so its unusual to see them now in such an urban setting when we've not seen any great numbers around the local countryside this winter.
Hopefully they might drag in a more exotic species of berry feeder!
Allan, It's the same story here on Ladybridge Estate, we see Redwing in small numbers everyday at present . Usually near the centre which can be quite busy. I noted that the Redwing this morning were not as flighty (as people passed on the adjacent footpath) as earlier in the winter. Like you I am hoping for ''more exotic species''

Half hour stroll on lunchbreak resulted in the following: Peregrine. Raven. Sparrowhawk.(feral pigeon kill behind AMF bowling.) Pied wagtail. Grey wagtail. Goldfinch. No sign of Goosander. Probably flushed by some inebriated drunkard exiting The Orwell. :/
I believe the old nest was blown away in last years Spring gales"

Male Goosander flushed from Canal just outside Orwell pub this afternoon Song Thrush, Blackbird and Goldfinch near John Bull plus two other small charms of Goldfinch, one in parish church grounds one near the range
