10.00ish,both adult ravens present only three chicks on view,I fear one may have perished, they are now fully feathered and ready to fly,the adults were indulging in mutual preening on their usual perch.

midday visit, both adult ravens present and a beak count reveals 4 ravenetts in the nesta food item was brought in just as I arrived and may have been a chip or more likely a pie crust, both adults then engaged in a duel with 2 common buzzards quite amazing over the town center. 2 canada geese 3 pied wagtail 4 crows 2 magpies
Mallard brood on the Douglas reduced to four birds yesterday Pair of Long-Tailed Tit flying perilously low over the wide road junction by the Oak Hotel
Ashamed to have been rumbled having a non-pie lunch My trip in to Cheshire has gone to my head Having let my fellow townfolk down, I'll make amends by going for the £1.50 Pie and gravy special every day next week , but sorry Chris, I can't reveal the location, as the stampede of forum-users would spoil the ambience

Single Raven over town centre 1 pm today. Nice to meet Dave Broome again , keeping a close eye on proceedings, whilst consuming his lunch. Controversially not a pie though. Scandalous behaviour.!
Buzzard soaring over the town centre early afternoon, tracked by a Raven at a lower level; along the River Douglas by Riverway a female Mallard with 6 recently-hatched juvs, 3 Grey Wagtail, 2 Long-Tailed Tit
cycling back from wigan town centre late tea time(18.30ish) as i joined the canal path just before poolstock lock i noticed a female sparrowhawk very low over the canal yards away obviously after something, the aerobatics(is that the word)were stunning. so i pulled up to see what was going on. the hawk perched briefly in a small tree on the opposite side of the canal. then i spotted a bat close by. the hawk spotted me and flew off. this was all in the space of no longer than 10-15 seconds. do sparrowhawks go for bats ? i've never seen that behaviour before
watched the raven activity from 17.15-17.45 twice the male(i'm presuming) brought food back to the sitting female fed her and flew off again. also 5 jackdaws and plenty of pre roost pied wagtails

the bithells scaregull kite is down and the gulls are back
17.20 millgate one of the ravens flew from the nest site and over the civic centre along with 50+ pied wagtails on their way to the usual roosting site
opposite the old beer engine (chinese now) poolstock, very low and fast sparrowhawk (m). 2 mins later, bithells waste depot- some sort of kitey scaregull thingy. obviously worked not a single gull. killjoys eh
Hi Paul It must have been one of them i saw as i was stopped in traffic at Millgate as it flew over Scholes it then disappeared from view over Grand Arcade.
Whilst not having seen them for some time and wondering if something had happened to them, it was nice to see two Ravens flying over and carrying a twig back towards the usual nest site this evening on way home from work
80+ Greenfinches going to roost, new roost site is in the bushes at the back of the recycling point at tesco wigan. old roost trees at side of Oak hotel having been cut down. also 25 pied Wagtails pre roost gathering
A Mute Swan was causing a bit of traffic congestion this lunchtime as it waddled down the middle of Wigan Lane just north of the Cherry Tree roundabout. People had stopped and were on their phones as I drove past going to work, so I presume it was led to safety. It was probably one of the Whitley Reservoir birds...
".... Bithells 'junkyard' a gullers paradise,bh,common, lbb, herring all in a few minutes.
cheers geoff
approx 300 Black-Headed Gulls on and around Bithell's waste disposal yard at Chapel Lane this afternoon, with 15 Herring Gulls and several Lesser Black-Backed sat on roofs, worth checking for Darvic ringed birds but none today
Peregrine perched on building in town centre this morning then got flushed by 2 Ravens
Could this be the one from Challenge Way
Also 2 flocks of Redwing over 1 flock south approx 100 at 07:40 and 1 at 09:00 approx 150 South again. With the Flock of Pink Feet seen (posted elsewhere) not to bad for a town centre mornings sightings really brightened the day up i can tell you.
Cheers Jimmy
