RE: Spring Wood, nr Whalley, Lancs

first post,!! my wife and I had a walk up to Spring Wood today,Iwas hoping to see
a g.s.w. but not today. Thankfully to make up for this "we" (my wife spotted it)!!
a Goldcrest all fluffed up and flitting about in some sparce brambles about 6 ft away,Brill...!!!
plus all the other birds in the above post.

Also on the river" Calder" at the bottom of our street 50 MALLARD/ /4 GOLDENEYE/3 TUFTED DUCK/2 GOOSEANDER/the resident HERON/,B,B,GULLS & a WATER PIPIT,???
We went through every book we own & every picture on the net to identify this bird
and decided it was a WATER PIPIT, but we stand to be corrected.???(5 ft away feeding)!!Steve

Been meaning to visit here after all family except me saw GS Woodpecker, so we went twice on way out/back to Clitheroe. Not sure if this is 'in' or 'out' of county- please feel free to move! Situated off the A671 about ½ mile to the east of Whalley, OS Grid reference SD 742 363.
All sightings from car in carpark (& missed all the hail showerswink.gif) at feeding station areas. Great if you like photographing (GS Woodpecker just 5 foot away!). Birds are highest numbers seen at any one given time though could have been several different groups as the tits & chaffinches came in waves, numerous throughout the hour:
10.00-11.00am
GSWoodpecker 3 (1 came back repeatedly)
Nuthatch 1 (4+ times)
Great tit 5
Chaffinch 12+
Blue tits 6+
Coal tits 2
Robin 2
Long tail tits 2
Blackbird 3
Dunnock 1

3.30-4.30pm
GSWoodpecker 1 (repeatedly 4 times)
Nuthatch 2
Treecreeper 1
Chaffinch 20+
Great tit 12+
Long tail tit 7
Rook 5
Blue tits 8+
Black bird 3
Dunnock 2
Robin 2
Coal tit 2
Mallard 5
Magpie 2
