Every birders nightmare, " just saw a funny looking bird " what a record even if we cannot find it again or prove it, it always goes to show, the biggys out there waiting for you to find it keep birding
I run a Tree Sparrow feeding station on a farm nearby, and during the week whilst chatting to the farmer he mentioned an unusual bird that spent a few weeks in the garden at the farm late last winter. He described the bird as a thrush,as big as or slightly bigger than a Blackbird but smaller than a Mistle Thrush,it had a striking reddishy breast!! I made sure he wasn't getting confused with a Redwing, but he was certain it wasn't one,as he is familiar with with them. When I called down today I took my American field guide with me, and you've guessed it he immediately picked out Yankee Robin as the bird he had seen!!Although its not 100% certain he's correct I feel pretty sure he's got the i.d. right as ther's not realy any other bird that fits the description.Definitely one that got away.
