I didnt see any planes that low what would have disturbed them the only thing i can come up with is about 15 mins after they went west a shroud of fog came in and i wonder if they could see that in the distance. While they was blogging it looked as though none of the geese wanted to take the lead role and i have never seen that before geese just flying round in a sort of bunch and just waiting for one of them to decide to lead off
Don't know if you have any lowish flying planes round your area - but we live fairly close to the airport and have seen Pink Feet suddenly change direction - on one occasion went back the way they came - if a plane looms up even a longish way off. Could that have been the cause of your birds' strange behaviour?
