As I walked down Blackburn Road, Bolton at about 9.40am there were about 100 Lapwings up in the air above the Halliwell Road junction. They then landed briefly before flying around for a while again, and then headed off towards Tonge Moor.
c50 lapwings now in the area where Halliwell Road & Blackburn Road join in Bolton. They seem to mainly stick the roofs of the houses & Mosque at the bottom of Halliwell Road during the day then move over to Central Tyres over on Howard Street once it has closed for the day.
Hi John, there were 11 Golden Plovers at Moter-world in late October but I have not seen any since. I used to deliver council newspapers around School Hill and regularly saw Golden Plovers in winter.
Lunchtime today around Blackburn Road/Halliwell Road, Bolton.
69 Lapwings on Royal Bank of Scotland building and 30 around Motor-world.
I worked in the RBS building (Ashton House) for over 8 years and the roof was a regular roost for the Lapwings every winter. Good to hear that they are still there. Also used to be seen on roofs of Motor World, Kwik Fit, National Tyres and (until they insulated it) Lythgoes car showroom. Any Golden Plover amongst them? They were sometimes seen in ones & twos there as well.
At least half a dozen Lapwing on the roof of Car People, Ashton Moss. Probably more, but the inclement weather (to put it politely ) prevented further investigation.
About 50 Lapwings plus 12 largish Gulls (LB-b probably) on roof of Veka Showroom just south of ''Rivington South'' M61 Services. Just, I think in Bolton.

A flock of 20 or so Golden Plover attempting to land on the roof of the Car People, Ashton Moss 1500hrs today. Landing aborted and the birds flew off. Very few Lapwings remaining.
A flock of 20+ Golden Plover joined the resident Lapwings on the roof of the Car People, Ashton Moss 1500hrs yesterday (22/10). Unfortunately they weren't there today.
21 lapwings on hepworth and hall opticians at newtown wigan.behind it is wigan fire station where there were more.i could see 12 but as it is a flat roof and 3 storeys high i could only see the birds on the edges.so dont know exactly how many but the occasional fluttering bird gave the impression there were more.
Re: The Seddon Atkinson building on Higginshaw Lane.
I drive past this building at least twice a day so am well used to seeing the colony of Lapwings that inhabit this rooftop. They have been there for many years in varying numbers but I think they are doing as well this year as any I can remember.
Just been to pick the Wife up from work and at 6 o'clock and was treated to the sight of 200 - 250ish Lapwings up in the air circling above the building, a great sight. On our return 10 minutes later they were all settled quietly down on the roof again. I've been seeing these birds here for so long it just seems so natural for them to be there in such an unnatural place.
I was just browsing and came across this page, husband works at old Mathers Foundry, Lapwings regularly roost there 50+ he mentioned them yesterday morning.
