Late posting for yesterday Now 2 broods of Tufted Duck here 1 with 3 young 1 with 7 young these could be whats left of the brood of 11 what was on but not sure.
1 Raven over around 17.30ish, plus a significant sounding gathering of Goldfinches in the trees around the pond. There were 30+ in one tree alone and it sounded like many more in other trees in the area.

But the best bird of all does not count for webs though 3 magnificent wrens singing there heads off First i have seen since the bad weather and really glad to see these birds as they say in these parts i am chuffed as a butty even though i was wet through
This Morning 2 Singing Goldcrests 2 singing and seen Blackcaps Pr Tufted Duck on pond hopefully same birds what bred last year Blackbirds , Song Thrush ,Robin all collecting food for there young ones
Pr Mute Swans Also Rangers putting a Straw Bale on one of the islands presumably to see if the swans will breed here they also had a nesting box for ducks didnt get to talk to any one to se if they was going to put it out on one of the islands .
once saw one a few years ago up a horschesnut tree in haigh hall.it sticks in my mind because a green woodpecker was on the same branch.bet no one else has ever had these two species in their bins at the same time.what im getting at jimmy is mandarins nest in holes in trees so haigh hall is a possibility.and this tree was very near the boathouse where mandarins are often seen on the canal.
Tufted Duck still with 5 nearly fully grown young should soon be flying 2 m Mandarins 5 Goldcrest loads of Moorhens they do very well here nowadays dont know why but less than 10yrs ago you was lucky if there was 2pr here now there must be about 40 birds here including all the young from this year
today 131 mallards 10 moorhens 2 mute swans juv 10 canada geese no mandarins loks like they might have moved to there breeding areas as none on whitley either
