still 12 mandarins on today with the males
nearly all displaying something ive never seen before

16 mandarin this morning 10 m / 6 f also spoke to warden
and they have a box to put up to see if they will breed
they just need permission off there boss

sunday 17/10/06 11.00 3 drake mandarin and 1 female present.the drakes in fine plumage now,but they failed the pie crust test,thanks for the info jimmy (county tick for me)

6 mandarins , 2 m 2 f and 2 juv males coming into plumage but without the sails
2 grey wagtails

5 mandarin ,4 m ,1f one of the males did not have the sails on the side so i presume its
a juv going through its moult to a adult
also 1 little grebe ,pr mute swans 4 cygnets 126 mallard ,16 moorhens

Could the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust be persuaded to put a nestbox or two on the island? I thought about asking a couple of winters ago when a few Mandarin lingered there - I'll make enquiries
