It was an adult, but it hadn`t attained it`s full `summer` hood, i.e there was still some white especially round it`s bill - it was difficult viewing with the heat haze, but I`m sure this was correct !
You did omit to mention Ian, that it was a new species for the Peat Pools though and well worth the 3 minute journey to get there. Well done pal, great find
THE LITTLE GULL COULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME ONE I SAW AT HOUGHTON GREEN POOL 830-900 THIS MORNING IT FLEW OFF IN THE DIRECTION OF CHAT MOSS,IT WAS AFULL SUMMER PLUMAGE ADULT
Pual Hammond and I had a Cuckoo at Moss Brow Farm, Rindle Rd. early morning. What with the mist and sun in our eyes it led us a merry dance for at least half an hour, until it flew across the road just in front of us. Later on we picked out a Little Gull preening on the Peat Pools, which led to a momentus occasion - Ian Mckerchar TWITCHING his own patch ! ! ! Also about ; several LRPs, RP, Redshank, Curlew, R-l Partridge, Sand Martin, Willow Warbler etc
