Peregrine spent most of Friday 16th Oct, at Rank Hovis mill, Wharf Road, Trafford Park. Sat on top of mill watching the pigeons. Was joined by Kestrel for some time.
The Peregrines are fairly regular above Centenary Bridge normally harrassing the Starling roost. Occasionally they're joined by the Sparrowhawks that seem to spend most of their time at Trafford Ecology Park.
Dave - please let me have the date for RL Partridge for the definitive county list. Peregrines breed in Salford and got 4 young away last year, possibly 2 other pairs around as well which makes 10 Peregrines around the city centre and Salford/Trafford, the Imperial War Museum has been a favoured perch as well.
A Little Egret was reported from Keb Lane, Bardsley, today. It may well be fishing on the R Medlock at Fenneyfield bridge (where they have been recorded before).

Hi Geoff I certainly agree with you on the variety of birds which turn up in the so called urban jungle in Salford.Last summer a Red legged Partridge suprised our workforce by spending an hour wandering around our carpark and it even had a dust bath at the side of a car while I took a couple of pictures. Have you noticed the large numbers of Cormorants heading towards Trafford every morning,I am seeing between 15-25 each day probably coming up from the Irwell.
hello dave, i also work in salford ,at the moment closer to trafford road bridge than you(just love traffic )and i am amazed at the variety of birds that live or pass through this urban jungle, been watching the quays recently(in the gloom)and will post a list soon.
An adult Peregrine was sat on one of the gasometers in Liverpool street Salford today at 12.15pm.It stayed for about 30 mins before flying over the nearby scrapyard and then flew towards Trafford Park. My place of work is directly opposite and every dinnertime the binoculars come out for a quick scan.I normally see the peregrines 3-4 times a month.In the 28 years that I have worked there the gasometers have provided a perch for many Kestrels,Sparrowhawks,1 Tawny Owl ,1 escaped Lanner falcon and 1 Harris hawk which I also saw hunting at Weaste cemetery.
