5 Redshanks

4 Little Ringed Plovers

3+ Common Sandpipers

1 Common Tern

1540 Sand Martins

1 White Wagtail

Additional highlights prior to 9.15 this morning included 2 Swallow over the horse paddocks between Byrom Lane and the flash. Single House Martin over the sailing club, 2 Common tern on the spit, singing Sedge Warbler at the west end and a reeling Grasshopper warbler just north of the canal between the footbridge and the golf course.

2 Little Ringed Plovers 

1 Curlew east at 07:10

1 Greenshank west at c07:40

2 Redshanks

1 Common Sandpiper

2690 Sand Martins

3 Meadow Pipits on the ruck 

1 White Wagtail on the Point

Warbler counts from around the flash excluding some suitable areas in the very eastern side totalled:

6 Cetti's Warblers (5 singing males)

19 Blackcaps (18 singing males)

32 Chiffchaffs (28 singing males)

51 Willow Warblers (46 singing males)

4 Reed Warblers (2 Ramsdales and 2 The Point reedbeds)

1 male Whitethroat just east of the lock gates 'monument'

Afternoon visit.

Female garganey still on kidney pond.
3 Black-tailed godwits
2 little ringed plovers
4 redshanks
1 common sandpiper
6 snipe
1 oystercatcher
1 common tern
40+ sand martins
2 Reed warblers, heard only in ramsdales Reed bed.
2 cettis warblers shown well.
Good numbers of chiffchaffs, blackcaps & willow warblers on my walk around.

Afternoon visit Thursday.

Good views of the Little Ringed Plover on the spit (thanks Tony - good to meet you).

Two Goldeneye near the spit seen from opposite side of the lake looking back, around 1pm.

Common Whitethroat heard (and recorded) near the viewing point below the canal steps.

This morning 8:30 - 11:00;

Garganey 1 female from the viewing screen opposite Tom Edmondson hide

Mediterranean gull 2 landed on the spit at about 9:15. Another or one of the same birds flew over the boat club at 11:00.

Goosander 2 male and female at the western end.

Snipe 9 on the mini spit

several blackcaps singing

Additional sightings this morning included 130 Sand Martins (which gathered into a tight flock and drifted off high as the fog came in), 1 Swallow, 2 Redshanks, 3 Goosanders, singing Willow Warbler still at the western end with a singing Blackcap nearby (Record photo of Drake Common Scoter attached).

This afternoon 16:00 - 17:00 just as the rain started,

Little ringed plover 2 outside Horrock's hide. I was surprised to discover that these are my earliest ever at the Flash.

Sand martin 11+ over south side

 

All hides locked for some inexplicable reason, so no chance of sheltering from the rain.
