Likewise, I'm a great fan of nuclear power to modern standards. Done properly, it solves everything. There are many new designs using liquid salt heat transfer, or Thorium fuel, that are far more efficient, simpler, easier to build, and safer - but that's all off-topic
I think the proposed site is at the next bay East (Porth-y-Pistyll), not Cemlyn, though obviously the wildlife at Cemlyn would be affected to some degree, including the very rare isopod Idotea chelipes, and of course Roseate Tern this year
Looks like the UK Gov have decided to use the previously GE Hitachi owned land (that UK Gov bought in 2024) to build our next generation of Nuclear reactors over the Tern Colony at Cemlyn.
Now don't get me wrong, I am a nuclear reactor designer and operator by day job but Wylfa was built in the 1970 for one purpose and one purpose only - cheap local (low transmission losses) electricity to Anglesey Aluminium Smelting works. When Wylfa shut the Alu works did as well - indeed they relocated and many residents moved with the business to the Middle East where they became the worlds first solar powered Alu plant. Clever, and respect.
So why now apart from politically creating jobs (oops, said it) in a remote constituency that already has lots of solar and wind creating local green electricity do we need a major power plant, that then suffers transmission losses sending the electric through National Grids Wires back to the Industrial Heartlands of Chester / Cheshire, Merseyside, and Greater Manchester.
Surely Stanlow or Trafford Park or Fiddlers Ferry where there have been previous power stations would be better locations for these SMRs?
Eyes open peeps for public consultations....or are these done deals?
(Mind you, when working decommissioning Wylfa A 45p/mile 200 miles a day and four hrs travel time on 8 hr shifts....can't say I did too bad out the old lady so I admit I have had my palm crossed with silver).
