Tim/Paul

there has been a big community effort over the last couple of years against these proposals creditably led by a Marj Prowner. Marj is currently collating a petition regarding the current proposals and looking for additional supporters/ groups to support the cause.

if you want to support there are articles on Friends of Carrington Moss facebook (you don't need to be on facebook to view). Alternatively email friendsofcarringtonmoss@gmail.com

I recognize the need for the increase in social housing, but personally I have 2 main concerns (further to those put forward by Tim and Paul);
1. Carrington Moss is an important wildlife gateway to the Mersey Valley (Urmston to Stockport). If we build on Carrington the Mersey Valley green spaces increasingly become an island.
2. As a member of MRG who monitors the area, I feel building a relief road across a moss equals roadkill, and the suggestion proposals are being "mitigated" by green wildlife corridors is questionable as these will just become dog walking highways.

Thanks for the heads up and the links Tim.

I haven't had time yet to study the links at length but this is awful news. As one of the very early/co-founding members of the Shell Pool NR I did so much birding across the whole area when I lived in S.Manchester and when I was Assistant County Recorder. I was even involved in preliminary bird surveys of the area which will be developed when Manchester United first started looking at it. My surveys were so thorough and picked up things that the developers didn't like, so they sacked the consultancy that I worked for off the contract cry So I know the area very well and recognise its importance and see these plans as a travesty, how can they even contemplate this disbelief

Please keep us updated Tim, if a campaign starts then we all need to get behind it. As a person who has an isolated patch of mossland on my patch now, I mourn every piece of this habitat that is lost. Sad days indeed no

A 'consultation' has been launched on the proposed plans for the so-called Places for Everyone which replaced the Manchester Spatial Framework after Stockport withdrew and which have just been published. As part of the plan New Carrington is being built on most of Carrington Moss south of the Lyondellbasell site all the way to Sinderland Green. Maps of the areas of housing and warehouses are here:
