Hi Rob.....thanks for the welcome. Yes there certainly seems to be a lot of really useful threads and discussion topics, really interesting and a great resource for less experienced birders like myself. Its also nice to know that if you (I) can't solve a problem yourself there is someone willing to help who is more experienced on the forum.
I had a few hours out this morning at 7am just as it was getting light and before the rain set in for the day.......very enjoyable with lots of common woodland finches and song birds seen.

Best sites for you in GM (opinions will vary !!) are Pennington Flash & Chat Moss - both have attracted serious rarities
Outside GM, you're surely aware of the Hale area (see http://www.thefriendsofpickeringspasture.org.uk/recent-wildlife-sightings/february-2015#comments)
Also (across the new toll bridge), Frodsham marsh (https://frodshammarshbirdblog.wordpress.com/) & a little further to Burton Mere Wetland "BMW", Parkgate viewing point & the rest of the Dee estuary (http://www.deeestuary.co.uk/lsight.htm)

Hi folks.....my name is Gary and I'm new to MBF....thanks Ian for allowing me onboard.
I'm certainly no expert but really enjoy all aspects of the countryside and wildlife, especially birds. Birds have always caught my imagination, their song and calls, their behaviours and appearance. Im forever stopping and staring up at trees when Im out and about.....
I'm hoping to gain more knowledge from others and get out a lot more watching birds locally now that I have more time to do so.
I enjoy walking so I usually incorporate a good walk with some bird watching when I can........hope to contribute when I can.....
