Very mobile but to be fair it showed very well and close up at rest, even landing on the orange prefabs at one point. Ive attached a few images from early afternoon and teatime.
To the birder with his wife (if youre on the forum) I arrived a minute or so before you left, I had to take a phone call and the bird came flying in and landed on the 384 roof. I got out of the car to let you know but I realised it was your car turning out of Redgate Lane into Hyde Rd.
The bird was quite mobile and eventually flew off towards the yard roof out of sight.
- juvenile Yellow-legged Gull Finally got myself one at Redgate, got that Monkey off my back! A proper unit of a bird, massive individual. Chuffed with this one.
Oops, my apologies folks, Ive attached an image of a Herring Gull in flight so its only right that I rectify my mistake and remove it.

Mainly Lesser Black-backed Gulls around the site recently including this 2nd year bird that I saw in flight that looked front heavy. When it landed I could see the reason why obviously swallowed something (bone? Plastic?) far too large for its gullet.

- adult Yellow-legged Gull on BCA roof amongst approx 250-300 large Gulls, vast majority of which were Lesser Black-backed. - 3 young Pied Wagtails mooching around the 384 prefabs
Lesser Black-backed Gull F:H56 that I saw on Bank Holiday Monday 26th May (not 36th). I had an interesting email this week from Aurora Gonzalo regarding that Flat Holm Island bird.
When I first saw the bird, I thought the blue colour was a bit on the pale side for dark blue so tried initially with light blue on cr-birding. It turned out to be dark blue. Aurora informed me that they had to order the rings from a different supplier last year of noticeably worse quality and the colour appears to be fading fast.
To some images but then stupidly pressed delete instead of import, so Ive had to download a retrieval app to get them back. Managed to get back to PC but the quality is never as good when you then transfer back to iPhone so Ive took images of the PC screen. Looks ok to me, and interestingly looks similar to an adult bird from September last year with a possible deformity to its right leg.
Hardly any visits during last week, Ive been that busy with my lads football match and training etc
Mon 14th July - adult Yellow-legged Gull on BCA roof. It was distant but clearly stood out amongst the dozens of Lesser Black-backed Gulls that numbered in excess of 100.

Been a bit quiet last few months with regards to scarcities, but things have picked up recently.
Tues 1st July. What appeared to be 2 adult Yellow-legged Gulls present (together) on 384 roof a couple of weekends ago. But despite close up views and decent images they didnt move for ages and when they finally flew I wasnt ready to get a good view or an image of the primary pattern, thats the way it goes.
Fri 4th July. My attention was drawn to 2 individuals that I thought could?ve been the same 2 birds.
Sat 5th July. 1 of the 2 birds present, or in view at least. Whilst sifting through the 50-60 large Gulls, a Peregrine flew over the 384 but although they all saw it, not a single bird moved
Sun 6th July. - 2 adult Yellow-legged Gulls present early am. 1 on 384 building briefly before dropping into the yard, whilst the 2nd was over on BCA roof. This time, in my opinion, I think there?s good reason to call them as I observed them in flight. The recent sunlight has made for tricky viewing but with nearby Herring Gulls and Lesser Black-backeds providing good comparisons, I think these are ok.

- 2CY Lesser Black-backed Gull F:H56 Looks like it could be a Flat Holm Island bird (in between Weston-Super-Mare & Cardiff). Dont recall having a blue ringed bird here before.
- 3CY Lesser Black-backed Gull N:5B0?? Difficult to make out the code but looks like this one, been here before.
F41:M is indeed a Manx bird, ringed as a chick on the Calf of Man on 28.06.24. He has it as a Herring Gull whereas I wasnt sure what it was and opted for Lesser Black-backed, I always think they are difficult at that age, so thats that sorted, Herring Gull it is.
Also of note I think its only right to state that the recent bird Ive been posting as a 3w Caspian Gull has been re-identified as a Herring Gull. Apologies for the misidentification, this one certainly caught me out
- 3w Caspian Gull this morning. Bright sunlight made for difficult viewing around the 384 roof area but it eventually dropped into the yard where it showed well for a while.
Also of note a 1w bird F41:M on an orange ring. I think it?s a Lesser Black-backed but I?m by no means certain. Its likely a Manx bird.
Sun 2nd March - individual present that I was reporting as a Yellow-legged Gull with yellowish orbital last year, could well be a hybrid, its just not quite right for michahellis.
An unusual Gull for me with its pale primaries and a lovely scapular pattern. I initially thought it couldve been some type of Glaucous hybrid. A smart looking individual.
Few visits this week but not many Gulls and nothing of note in the ones present.
Thurs 6th Feb - 2w Caspian Gull again. Although I keep posting this bird, its certainly not a classic in my opinion but probably enough in it to submit as a record.
Mid afternoon visit. - Yellow legged Herring Gull, looking at the palish mantle and the reduced white on the primaries, I think it?s an Argenteus. Initially picked out by another birder.

- 1w Caspian Gull Showed well in the main yard and then on the 384 roof. Same bird as yesterday, it has the orange staining at the base of the bill on the left side of its face.
- Yellow legged Herring Gull Superficially it looked like an Argenteus but the white proportion on the primary pattern suggests otherwise.
