Filey Dams & Brigg - Rochdale Field Naturalists' Coach Trip

The Rochdale Field Naturalists' Society are running a coach trip to Filey Dams and Filey Brigg this Saturday 14th October at the height of the autumn migration. If you are interested in going on the trip Sheila Simpson is taking the bookings. Tel 01706 853791 The fare of £15 is paid on the coach which leaves from Rochdale. To get the most out of the day you must be able-bodied and able to get up and down the steep slopes in Filey.

Its the start of the Bird Ringing and Migration week so we will be able to talk to members of the Filey Bird Observatory Group who are planning to establish the Ringing Centre at the Top Scrub.
The coach will stop first at Filey Dams and then go on to the Country Park above the Brigg.
High Tide is at 12.30pm so time for Sea Watching from the cliff top if its not too windy.
Then explore all the paths and hedges around the Country Park for flora and birds, calling in on the Ringers.
From 2.30pm the tide will have receded enough for us to go down to the beach and look out for waders at the waters edge.

If you have brought your Pond nets a chance to investigate the Rock Pools in Bay Corner. Or go into the picturesque old part of Filey, see the Coble landing, have a donkey ride . etc!
biggrin

For the most sure-footed a walk along the Brigg to see the waves crashing in but the causeway will be very wet for some time.
Filey is an old fashioned resort with lots to interest naturalists- especially in the peak migration month of October.

See the attachment for photos and maps.
