An extraordinary sighting of a bat flying around the gorge where the Goyt flows under the bridge at the bottom of the slope (driving into the Lakes). It was sunny, and it was 4.30 p.m! Didn't appear to be a pipistrelle (too large), and appeared two-tone (although this may have been due to light shining through the wings - something not often viewed! It landed in some ivy on the trunk of a tree after a couple of minutes, before disappearing further into the woods. A Daubenton's perhaps given the habitat? Also seen: six brown hawkers (one ovipositing), one emperor and one Southern hawker. Droves of common blue damsels.
